Say Bro, In the beginning rap was a reflection of life. It was society’s mirror, used to point out our blemishes. Somehow, wires got crossed and we lost are way and became stagnant. With so many artists making music and basing success solely on the money, cars ,jewels & clothes, the hood CNN has turned into the Ghetto TMZ. But from the Concrete Jungle of Colton a movement is taking root. I consider myself lucky to have a conversation with 40 Glocc, the Colton, Ca artist who’s whole M.O. is to report the hood news, to remind the masses that the hood is hurting, that people everywhere are hurting. 40 Glocc, known for his 1993 release the “Jackal” as well as being a pillar of G-Unit West, 40 Glocc, as amassed a roster of talent for his own Zoo Life Entertainment Label. Zoo Life is set to release its first project, “Concrete Jungle” on 12/01/09 with distribution through Urban Music Alliance (UMA.). 40 Glocc was “G” enough to be candid about everything G-Unit as well as Zoo Life.
SayBro.. Lets jump right into it, and give the newbie’s a recap on 40 glocc, who do you run with?
40glocc.. Its Zoo Life Ent. , Infamous Records, G-Unit.
Saybro..I know G-Unit has had beef with excommrades , but how has the G-Unit situation been for you?
40glocc.. That’s home , everybody support me in all I do… I just play my position…
SB. You have a full roster on Zoo Life, are all of your artists from Colton?
40. Naw they from everywhere, Sun is from Texas, Village Boo & Lil Boo are from Englewood , we’re global.
SB. Were these relationship before G-Unit or was this a power move to become a CEO?
40. We were family before G-Unit, they were there from the beginning. That’s how I stay grounded, by staying with my people, being humble. It’s not shit for me to ride with my homies in a Cutlass, that’s how I stay close to the pulse of the people.
SB. Zoo Life has “Concrete Jungle” dropping in a month, the 1st Single “Grindin” has been out for about 2weeks. What’s been the response to it?
40. It’s been real positive, a lot of positive respect except for B.E.T, they turned down the video, but an MTV network pick it up. Its fucked up, that a young, black man, artist can bring you something positive and you say NO.
SB . Whoa, MTV pick it up, but B.E.T turned it down, They complain about the images in videos but turned a positive vid away.
40. Yeah, So Fuck B.E.T, I am pissing on B.E.T.
SB. From watching the video and listening to the lyrics it’s a reality song, do you feel reality is what’s missing from rap?
40. Yeah, real life issues, Zoo Life & 40 glocc is bringing that back. The message of Zoo Life is to get back to real life issues. We are filling that void in the game right now. We on some street militant type shit. We represent for the Jane and John Doe’s.
SB. How do you feel about kids dancing and jerking?
40. Kids going to be Kids, they going to party and dance, But as adults we have to deal with these real life issues out here. We can get caught up in the bullshit, cause it’s so many people out here hurting and struggling.
SB. Do you feel that music has gotten away from reporting the Hood News?
40. Zoo Life, We the only ones doing that period.
SB. Speaking of the hood, what’s up with this Gang Injunction?
40. Man that’s the DA in Colton, they are picking up stuff from the music & lyrics and making it a personal beef based on affilation. If I holla at one of my homies I am affilated . They cannot make it a criminal case so they are trying to make it a Civil Case, in attempt to get at me.
SB. How did the situation with Urban Music Alliance come about to distribute “Concrete Jungle”?
40. Grinding, Man this is part of the movement for over 2 years, we been putting this in motion.
SB. You also have a few acting credits to your name now. Is acting something you enjoy or just another hustle?
40. Acting is an enjoyment & passion not just something I jumped into for the money. I have directed every video for Zoo Life, so film is a passion for me.
SB. Back to the “Concrete Jungle”, what producers worked on teh project with the Zoo?
40. Aww man, Jay Steve, Soze, who did “Grindin”, Havoc and notes who is in house all work with us. We all work good together, brainstorming right in the studio, to make sure everyone is on point with the lyrics and concepts. We all kick out ideas to make sure we are going in the right direction.
SB. Most heads of crews drop a solo project first, so what made you drop the crew effort first?
40. The sole purpose of that was to introduce the movement, everything is about movement first.
Movement first, Hood news, reppin for the street’s for the John & Jane Doe’s. Seems like the void in rap is being filled. Rap fans there is hope… Say BRO
